Position Specification


THE POSITION

Title: HEAD – PROCESS CHEMISTRY

Reports to: Head – VMRD – Pharmaceutical Sciences, India/Senior Director

Duties: The candidate will have the following broad duties:
- Responsible for conducting laboratory synthesis and purification on pharmaceutical intermediates and drug candidates focused on process research, process optimization, and scale-up.
- The role involves development of new and existing products from laboratory to full-scale production, tech service, sample dispatch and liasing with other departments.
- Responsible for providing chemistry support for plant operations activities, and also to provide technical input for the design and development of improvement projects including revenue generation, cost minimization, quality improvement and environmental compliance.
- Responsible for experimentation from initial laboratory route identification and evaluation through scale-up to the kilo laboratory.
- Develop chemical processes, which are safe, efficient, cost effective and environmentally considerate against the time constraints of the drug development process.

Challenges:
- Develop new methodology and perform total synthesis.
- Explore crystallization and specifications for purity and rigorous new uses of physical/analytical chemistry in refining drugs.
- Solving complex synthetic problems and implementation to large scale.

THE ORGANIZATION


THE PERSON

Experience:
- Minimum 15+ years of experience within the Pharmaceutical Industry.

Education:

- MS or Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or related science.

Background:

- Past experience should include demonstrated ability to conduct multi step synthetic projects. Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams especially with chemistry and engineering teams and/or TPM groups.

Competencies:
- Analytical skills should include all modern spectroscopic techniques including: NMR experimentation and techniques; IR; mass spectroscopy (LC-MS), separation techniques including chromatography: HPLC, GC, TLC, flash chromatography, and chiral separations.

- Complete familiarity with the chemical literature and literature searching techniques are required (SciFinder, Beilstein, MDL, and CAS).

- Demonstrate good knowledge of organic chemistry and modern analytical techniques and will be experienced in the use of large-scale laboratory equipment. Experience in the chemistry of nucleosides, carbohydrates and heterocycles may be advantageous.


Specific:
- Should have 15 years of experience in a pharmaceutical company.
- Proven track record of conducting multi step synthetic projects.
